My work is based around the theme of Vanitas art. I am interested in the passage of time and the wider spiritual & philosophical questions that surround mortality. My sculptures, which I create outdoors, are designed to weather with time passing and this process is integral to their appearance.They can be viewed with trust, reverence or superstition; whichever, their impact is shaped by the experiences the viewer brings to them.

The sculptures Fetish 1 & Fetish 2 are suggestive of the human figure in limbo and transit. Their destination is unclear, but is possibly a link between this world and the metaphysical world. Their sleeping postures and rugged surface imply a lengthy journey. They could be both pilgrim and idol, depending on the viewer. They might be regarded with trust, reverence or suspicion. For me they are a memento mori.
