FETISH 1 & 2

Burghley Sculpture Garden

The sculptures Fetish 1 & Fetish 2 are suggestive of the human figure in limbo and transit. Their destination is unclear, but is possibly a link between this world and the metaphysical world. Their sleeping postures and rugged surface imply a lengthy journey. They could be both pilgrim and idol, depending on the viewer. They might be regarded with trust, reverence or suspicion. For me they are a memento mori.
